Co-operatives and credit unions thrive because of the dedicated individuals and organizations that champion the co-operative spirit. The Alberta Co-operative Leadership Awards celebrate those who have made a lasting impact on Alberta’s co-operative sector—honouring leadership, innovation, service, and the next generation of co-operative changemakers.

At their core, these awards reflect the Seven Co-operative Principles—values that guide co-operatives worldwide in fostering fairness, education, and community-driven success.

Award Categories

Co-op Merit Award

Recognizing individuals in co-operatives and credit unions who provide outstanding service to members and demonstrate Co-operative Principle #7: Concern for Community. These recipients go beyond business operations, strengthening their communities and ensuring co-operatives remain a force for positive change.

Co-op Visionary Leadership Award

Celebrating individuals or organizations that exhibit strong leadership, innovation, and inspiration in Alberta’s co-operative sector. This award reflects Co-operative Principle #6: Co-operation Among Co-operatives, acknowledging those who unite and uplift the movement through collaboration and vision.

Co-op Innovation Award

Honouring creative and forward-thinking programs that embrace Co-operative Principle #5: Education, Training, and Information. These initiatives empower co-op members, employees, and communities through fresh approaches to learning and knowledge-sharing.

Inspiring Young Co-operator Award

Highlighting emerging leaders who are 35 years of age or younger and who exemplify Co-operative Principle #2: Democratic Member Control. These young changemakers ensure that co-ops continue to evolve and thrive by championing participation, equity, and the future of co-operative governance.
