ACCA appoints new Executive Director

(October 30, 2019 – Stony Plain) The Alberta Community & Co-operative Association (ACCA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Cabaj as Executive Director of the ACCA effective November 1, 2019.

“Paul brings a deep commitment to the co-operative model and his strong collaborative spirit will go a long way in strengthening the voice of Alberta’s co-operatives,” said Randy Taylor, Chair of the ACCA Board of Directors.  “On behalf of the ACCA Board, I am pleased to welcome Paul in this new role and we look forward to working with him and the ACCA team in achieving our strategic directions by advancing the co-operative model, creating connections with various levels of government and strategic partners, supporting our members’ growth and advancement, and inspiring co-operative innovation.” 

Cabaj has an extensive background in the co-operative sector, nationally and internationally, including supporting a range of co-operative enterprises in launching or expanding their business. He has secured millions in funding to support the development of co-operatives in new sectors and has advocated for regulator reform to improve the ecosystem in which co-operatives operate.

“I’m truly honoured to take on this leadership role with the ACCA,” said Cabaj. “Co-operatives have been a cornerstone in the history of Alberta and I look forward to working with the Board and the team at ACCA to build on this history to enable Albertans to solve the challenges of a changing economy and society. Through building proactive relationships with various levels of government, I am confident we can solve the challenges of today and tomorrow utilizing the co-operative model.”

Prior to this appointment, Cabaj served as interim Executive Director with ACCA.  His background includes Manager of Co-operative Development for Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada in Ottawa and had previously served as Director of Co-operative Development with ACCA from 2013 to 2015.
