Alberta’s co-operatives are rooted in community, innovation, and resilience — and ACCA is proud to stand behind the people and organizations driving that impact forward. Our newly released 2024 Impact Report captures a year of growth, collaboration, and bold steps toward a stronger, more sustainable co-operative future.

From stabilizing operations after major funding shifts to launching new initiatives through the Legacy Builders Program, this year’s report tells the story of a sector stepping up — and a network that continues to invest in shared success.

Highlights from the 2024 Report

  1. A Year of Resilience and Renewal.

Despite financial challenges caused by the departure of two long-time funders, ACCA responded with focus and agility. Strategic budget decisions, the successful approval of the NRED (Northern and Regional Economic Development) grant, and increased member-driven investment helped us stabilize and strengthen operations — laying the foundation for long-term sustainability.

  2. Launch of the Legacy Builders Program

Legacy Builders — ACCA’s newest category of sustaining members — go above and beyond regular dues to help expand programming, spark innovation, and fuel Alberta’s co-operative movement. In 2025, their support is powering our biggest initiatives, including the Alberta Co-op Connection Tour, the Cross-Campus Changemaker Event, and the 2025 Alberta Co-operative Conference.

  3. Elevating Awareness and Engagement

ACCA’s communications and outreach efforts gained momentum in 2024, with a stronger digital presence, new tools to support emerging co-ops, and a renewed focus on connecting younger audiences to the model. From rural infrastructure to urban worker co-ops, the stories across Alberta are as diverse as the people building them.

  4. A Vision for 2025 and Beyond

Our 2025–2028 Strategic Plan focuses on expanding supports, building stronger partnerships, and promoting the co-operative model as a key tool for economic development across the province. As demand for co-op solutions continues to rise, ACCA is committed to helping co-operatives thrive — from start-up to scale.

Why It Matters

This report isn’t just a snapshot of our work — it’s a call to action. Alberta needs resilient, community-owned businesses now more than ever. When people have the tools, knowledge, and support to work together, they can solve complex problems, build economic strength, and create a future that works for everyone.
