In 2025, co-operatives across Alberta came together to test a more coordinated approach to awareness, connection, and sector growth. The results were clear: there is real demand for the co-operative model when it is visible, relevant, and accessible. Now, the opportunity is to build on that momentum—connecting awareness to action through leadership, coordination, and shared investment.

Summer tends to be the slow, relaxing time of the year. But not for your ACCA’s government relations team!

At the ACCA AGM in June, we launched our first email campaign platform! At the AGM delegates were asked to test the platform and sign a letter supporting the regulation reductions surrounding the creation of new co-operatives. Everyone at the AGM was able to send off a letter to their local MLA and the Minister of Finance with a simple click of a button.

Bill 21, the Red Tape Reduction Statutes Amendment Act, 2022, was introduced in the Alberta Legislative Assembly on April 25, 2022 The ACCA is happy to see the changes to both the Cooperatives Act and the Rural Utilities Act within Bill 21.

Our government relations efforts are well underway! ACCA has met with several MLAs and City Councilors in an effort to raise the awareness of co-operatives here in Alberta. Click to read an update on our meetings.
