The ACCA is co-sponsoring a a debate of the frontrunners for the Alberta United Conservative Party (UCP) leadership, to take place August 9 in Calgary.

What gives the co-operative model an advantage over other business structures? Perhaps no quality is more distinct than democratic member control.

Premier Jason Kenney has stepped down as UCP leader, and the party will select a new leader on October 6.

During leadership races, it is common for member associations to submit a series of questions related to their sector to candidates. This best practice is a prime opportunity for you and ACCA to raise awareness of the co-operative sector and receive feedback on the candidates' intentions for policies that may affect us.

Our 2022 Annual General Meeting was held in Calgary and online on June 14. Over forty members attended the event (which was combined with CMC Congress and held at the Palliser Hotel). At the AGM we celebrated our shared successes over the past year and profiled a new tool that will make member advocacy easier and more effective.

At the ACCA AGM in June, we launched our first email campaign platform! At the AGM delegates were asked to test the platform and sign a letter supporting the regulation reductions surrounding the creation of new co-operatives. Everyone at the AGM was able to send off a letter to their local MLA and the Minister of Finance with a simple click of a button.

The last month has been an exciting time for our government relations efforts. While we are very optimistic at this point, we still have a lot of work ahead of us.
